Yes, name brand paint, for example, might show up on the SERPs, when someone Googles “paint my house”, and yes it would be hard to compete with that. You as a small business owner do not have the cash to compete.

BUT, YOU can beat them at their game by dominating the local market (your city) when you PROVIDE your SOLUTION to a typical homeowner Problem.
For Example: “Traverse City Re-modelers, the specialist in Wood Siding Painting!”

Example, When some one types:
“My Wood siding needs paint, how do I prep it?”
Make a WordPress blog about your Business, with your business name and the type of solutions that you provide, sprinkled with a fair amount of City NAME inside the blog with the Solution. Your website will show up on Google.
Give away a FREE Report and offer a DISCOUNT COUPON when your visitor opts in to your email list. You can then follow up later with your visitor and establish a relationship.

Provide your City name and a specific solution, you can show up on page 1 of Google. Make some slide show videos, write a few articles and a few press releases, and you can rank for your solution and your Business in Your city.

Any college student can setup and install a WordPress Blog for little or no money. The can also help with the slide show video too!

The reason Google PREFERS WordPress, as the WordPress blogs are standardized and they are easy for Google to index in their search results. DO NOT waste anymore time on standard html webpages.
